Two Vehicle Accident Causes One Death

On Thursday morning, November 10, a man was killed in a two vehicle accident in Birmingham.

According to Birmingham Police the accident happened at around 5.30 a.m. on 7701 1st Avenue North and Oporto Madrid Boulevard. The exact circumstances of the crash are not yet known but although the speed limit in the area is 35 mph, police believe at least one car was speeding and possible one ran a stop light.

The two cars involved collided and the impact was so strong both cars were thrown around 50 yards from the intersection. One of the drivers was taken to UAB hospital with life threatening injuries where he passed away. There is no information on the second driver.

The accident caused Highway 11 to be closed in both directions for over two hours while debris which was scattered over a wide area was collected.

Police hope cameras at the intersection 1st Avenue North and Oporto-Madrid Boulevard may provide more clues as to which driver was at fault.
