On the morning of April 14, a man died and three were injured in a multi vehicle crash.
According to state police, the accident happened at around 5 a.m. on the Interstate 65 at about one mile north of the Priceville exit. Two northbound vehicles, a 2014 Kia being driven by Aleysius F. Peoples, aged 24, of Birmingham and a 2000 Chevrolet being driven by Ryan J. Moore, 32, of Fairfield, collided. A parked 2011 Ford truck which was being operated by the Alabama Department of Transportation and two ALDOT workers, were in the area to remove control cones from a completed work site in the northbound lanes where bridge repairs were conducted. The workers, who were both on foot, were then hit.
Jacob S. Smith, 35, of Athens, who was an ALDOT employee died and a second worker, Kenneth L. Hopper, 63, of Hartselle was taken to hospital where his condition is unknown.
Both Peoples and Moore were taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment and both later discharged.
