On Wednesday afternoon, July 13 a mother died and her son was injured in a single vehicle crash in Jefferson County.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened just before 2 p.m. in the 7300 block of Old Tuscaloosa Highway in McCalla. Clara Walker-Colvin, aged 44 of Vance was traveling west on Old Tuscaloosa Highway near Lowetown Road when it appears she lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and hit a power pole.
Walker-Colvin was declared dead at the scene, having suffered fatal injuries in the crash and her 13 year old son was trapped in the vehicle. He had to be extricated by emergency services and was taken to University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham suffering from critical injuries.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
