On Tuesday, March 8, a head on collision in Mountain Brook led to a woman losing her unborn child.
According to Mountain Brook police, the accident happened shortly before 7.30 p.m. on U.S. 280 near Rocky Ridge Road. Tiffany Horton, who was 33 weeks pregnant with a baby girl was driving a Toyota Camry when 21 year old Francisco Bartolo driving westbound in a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer crossed the center median and crashed head on into her at a speed of around 60 to 65 mph. Horton was transported to UAB hospital where she is still listed as being in a serious condition and the baby died.
Francisco Bartolo was extricated and taken to UAB. However officers decided he was under the influence of alcohol and he was taken into custody for further investigation. The police later announced that he was charged with manslaughter and first degree assault and was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
